Lattakia Health Ministry continues its procedures with hepatitis cases in the countryside of Jableh

The Health Directorate in Lattakia followed up the presence of several cases of hepatitis A in the village of Hammam Al-Qarahleh in Jableh countryside by inspecting patients, picking samples for analysis, and distributing awareness brochures about the disease, means of transmission and prevention, in conjunction with the drinking water establishment sending a team from the Department of Analysis and Sterilization to ensure safety drinking water.

The Director of the Health Programs Department in the Health Directorate, Dr. Wafaa Halloum, told a SANA reporter that the directorate sent an epidemiological investigation team of Jabla Al Thaniyah supervision area to the village to follow up on the situation of injuries, along with accompanying water analysis containers and brochures for food and water safety in the area.

Halloum indicated that through the team’s work, it was found that about 17 injuries were distributed among several homes in different locations in the village. The food consumed by them was different, and the source of drinking water was either from different springs or from the main drinking water source.

She indicated that the team worked directly on taking samples from the spring water in the village and from the main pump feeding the drinking water, the water tank in the village school, and the water tanks in the homes of the injured citizens and sending them to the laboratory for analysis by the Health Directorate while educating the people and providing health education. Following the rules of general hygiene, not using personal tools, and resting with drinking liquids, eating sweets and reducing fat, stressing that the Directorate will follow up on the patients' situation on a daily basis for a period of two weeks with the question and follow up for the emergence of any new case.

For his part, the Director General of the Drinking Water Corporation, Eng. Mudhar Mansoura, indicated that the establishment, as soon as it was informed of the presence of hepatitis “any” cases, sent a team from the Department of Analysis and Sterilization to the village, and samples were taken from the spring water in the villages of Hammam Al-Qarahleh and Jebol last Friday.

Mansoura pointed out that this procedure was followed by taking other samples over the next two days from the same sources to monitor any development in the quality of drinking water and to conduct analyzes related to indicators of pollution in sanitation, stressing that the laboratory results showed that the physiochemical water specifications are identical to the Syrian standard for drinking water and there is no Impact of sewage pollution.

Mansoura advised the people to sterilize the water of the popular springs before using them for drinking purposes. As for the Ain Qubi station, it is in conformity with the Syrian standard for drinking water from a bacteriological point of view, stressing at the same time the establishment's readiness to conduct any analysis of the water tanks in the village and the sources of drinking water.
