"Mia san Wiesnband" is still the name of the website of the Dachau Ludwig Thoma musicians.

A note that Kapellmeister Rainer Hernek will soon delete.

"From now on we are no longer the original Bräurosl festival band," said Hernek.

Dachau

- The Dachau Ludwig Thoma musicians are no longer an Oktoberfest band.

Bräurosl host Peter Reichert, who in future will take over the Oktoberfest tent of the Hacker-Pschorr brewery at the Munich Oktoberfest as the successor to the Heide family, would like to implement a different musical concept.

“And with that another band will move in”, said Hernek.

This is the end of a decades-long tradition: next year the Ludwig Thoma musicians could have celebrated their 50th anniversary as the Pschorr-Bräurosl festival band.

Because when Fred Geisser took over the management of the band in 1972, which was then still called the Dachau brass band, he made it to the Oktoberfest tent in Munich that same year.

The Dachau Orchestra plays a lot at folk festivals all over Bavaria, but the commitment at the Munich Wiesn, the largest folk festival in the world, “was an accolade”.

The musicians from Dachau have stayed with the Oktoberfest band over the years with their experience, their pronounced feeling for the audience and their mood.

In the Bräuroslzelt “we always knew exactly which genre was wanted and when,” explains director and conductor Rainer Hernek, himself an active musician.

Quiet wind and big band music at meal times, otherwise a repertoire that creates a good mood.

The long tradition as an Oktoberfest band, "I'm proud of it," says Hernek.

But Peter Reichert, who has previously managed the folk singer tent “Zur Schönheitskönigin” at the Oide Wiesn, is apparently planning something new for the Bräurosl.

“More pure brass music,” says Hernek.

The Ludwig Thoma musicians want to continue playing at folk festivals and present their mix of Bohemian brass music, big band music, rock and pop classics.

“We're looking forward to our audience, especially at our local Dachau folk festival.” There, too, the Ludwig Thoma musicians always ensure the best atmosphere in the big tent.

When a reunion will be possible, however, is currently open.

Except for a television recording in July, the orchestra has not been on stage since the beginning of 2020.

Hernek estimates that there will be no public festivals this year either.

Nevertheless, we are looking to the future.

He is currently editing recording material for two new CDs that are planned and is working on the program with new arrangements.

"We'll definitely see you again."
