Two Penzberg companies have been recognized as "Ökoprofit-Betrieb 2020".

The Penzberg Clinic and Schleicher Fahrzeugteile GmbH explain what companies can contribute to environmental protection and how they have succeeded.

Penzberg - "We have been participating in the Ökoprofit project for around 15 years," says Helmut Mair, Head of Quality and Project Management at Schleicher Fahrzeugteile GmbH.

The company used the project as a "supporting information platform" when an in-house environmental management system was introduced.

"We have stayed there since then, because it is a very good platform for companies to exchange ideas on topics from the environmental and energy sectors," said Mair.

Schleicher vehicle parts: savings in thermal energy

Ökoprofit provides companies with an up-to-date status on the legal requirements that are placed on them in the environmental and energy sectors.

"In addition, there is always the opportunity to take part in technical discussions with experts and to receive useful assistance here," he explains.

In the past two years, Schleicher Fahrzeugteile GmbH was able to save around 110,000 kilowatt hours of thermal energy through the measures that were accompanied by Ökoprofit.

In addition, there would be further savings such as reducing CO2.

“But we cannot yet record this using measurement technology,” explains Mair.

The environmental protection measures taken include the expansion of the cooling capacity by installing an additional external cooler.

“This means that less power is required for the cooling compressors.” The machines need less cooling thanks to blinds that were installed on the south side of the halls and let less heat inside.

Old machines with poor energy efficiency were disposed of

Schleicher Fahrzeugteile GmbH also disposed of old machines with poor energy performance.

This was only possible by moving the work processes to new and fewer machines.

A consistent conversion of internal meetings to video conferences also helps the company to protect the environment.

"This means that significantly less commuting between the plants is necessary," says quality and project management manager Mair.

In order to implement the measures, Schleicher Fahrzeugteile GmbH has invested around 400,000 euros over the past two years.

Awarding the eco-label from Ökoprofit proves that it was worth it.

Klinik Penzberg has been participating in the Ökoprofit project since 2016

The Penzberg Clinic also received an award.

It took part in the project for the first time in 2016.

Because: "Since 2015, companies and businesses with public participation have had to undergo energy audits," explains clinic press spokesman Stefan Berger.

An energy audit is a systematic inspection and analysis of energy use and energy consumption.

This makes it possible to determine in which areas a company uses how much energy and where it could save.

And so it came about that the Penzberg Clinic has been participating in the Ökoprofit project since 2016.

Because this enabled the clinic to create one of the prerequisites for a successful energy audit.

Due to the corona pandemic, there were few opportunities for the Penzberg company to expand or introduce new measures.

“The activities were mainly limited to participating in the virtual Ökoprofit workshops to exchange experiences with other companies,” explains press spokesman Berger.

For this year, a training course on the subject of "Psychological risk assessment in the workplace" is being planned - since such a subject would also belong in the field of "Environment".

Little was possible in 2020.

However, in 2019 the first Environment Day of the Starnberg clinics, to which Penzberg belongs, took place in the Starnberg Clinic.

"It was of course also organized for the Penzberg employees," said Berger.

Among other things, it was discussed how plastic waste can be avoided.

“In our clinics, for example, this is done by using wooden sticks instead of plastic spoons,” explains the press spokesman.

In addition, the employees were repeatedly made aware of the economical use of materials, electricity and heating as well as waste separation.
