Yesterday, US President Joe Biden signed an order prohibiting most non-US citizens coming from South Africa to the United States, starting next Saturday, for fear of new strains of the Corona virus.
Biden's order also renews the imposition of an entry ban, which is expected to end today, under an order from his predecessor Donald Trump, on all non-American travelers who have visited Brazil, Britain, Ireland and 26 countries in Europe that allow travel across open borders.
Sky News quoted White House spokeswoman Jane Saki as saying that "with the spread of the Corona pandemic and the spread of more infectious strains, this is not the time to lift restrictions on international travel."
In turn, the State Department and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention urged American citizens yesterday to reconsider travel abroad and postpone travel without necessity.
Yesterday, the Centers for Disease Control announced the discovery of the new mutated strain of the Corona virus present in Britain in 22 US states, noting that the rapid spread of this strain makes it prevalent in the United States by next March.
The United States is the first country in the world in terms of infections and deaths from the Coronavirus, with 25 million, 861 597 cases, and 431,392 deaths.
