While the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, fights against covid-19, the country surpassed 150,000 deaths from the virus. Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard and other members of the cabinet have been tested for covid-19, after being in contact with the president. The Secretary of the Interior, Olga Sánchez Cordero, said that the president's clinical data will be kept private and denied that López Obrador had received the vaccine. Deaths and newly confirmed cases have risen steadily across the country since early October. Furthermore, the recent daily figures are some of the highest since the start of the pandemic.
