Small bottle, big effect

Karlsfeld - Klaus and Lore Reinhardt, 84 and 85 years old, wanted to play it safe on Monday.

In order to get to their corona vaccination appointment in Karlsfeld on time, the two Altomünster pensioners ordered a taxi.

Since it was snowing and the roads were slippery in winter, they set out an hour before their vaccination appointment.

The decision whether to get vaccinated at all was not an easy one for them.

Klaus Reinhardt takes blood thinners and therefore only consented after consulting the family doctor.

After they got the appointment for January 25th, they were happy, as Lore Reinhardt admits.

So she and her husband drove to Karlsfeld optimistically.

But there they were then as ordered and not picked up.

Or not vaccinated.

Because on site, the employees of the Johanniter Unfallhilfe, who operate the vaccination center at Karlsfelder See, declared that - unplanned - a vial of the precious vaccine should not be used.

And since a bottle of vaccine contains five, sometimes even six doses, five appointments had to be canceled without further ado.

So the Reinhardts had come from Altomünster for free.

116 euros paid for the taxi ride

Whereby: It wasn't completely in vain, because the taxi company charged the couple 116 euros for the return trip.

“We deliberately didn't want to take the S-Bahn to Karlsfeld,” explains Lore Reinhardt.

Firstly, she doesn't drive very often, and secondly, the way from the Karlsfeld train station to the vaccination center - especially in wintry weather - is difficult for seniors.

However, what annoys the Reinhardts almost more than the 116 euros they spent for free: that they were not informed about the cancellation in advance.

“Only when we got home did we see the call on our phone display!” The Johanniter had therefore only tried to cancel the appointment when the couple was already in the taxi on the way to Karlsfeld.

After all: All those eligible for vaccination who had to go home on Monday without having done anything have been offered an alternative date, as Johanniter spokeswoman Kristina-Désirée Reinelt emphasizes.

With the lack of vaccine, she also explains that an unusable vial results in the cancellation of five appointments: “We can't keep anything on reserve.

We revile everything we have! "

According to district office spokesman Wolfgang Reichelt, health insurance companies would cover the travel costs for the very elderly to the corona vaccination.

There are also pitfalls here: Basically, the health insurance fund only pays for the way to the nearest vaccination center.

The district of Dachau, however, has two centers and assigns those eligible for vaccination according to their postcodes.

For the Reinhardts from Altomünster, Karlsfeld would therefore be the further vaccination center.
