The US administration intends to renew diplomatic relations with the Palestinian Authority, the United States Deputy Ambassador to the United Nations, Richard Mills, revealed today (Tuesday).
"We will support a two-state solution agreed upon by both sides that will allow Israel to live in peace alongside a Palestinian state," Mills said at a UN Security Council meeting.
Mills, who was appointed to office last week by President Biden, stressed that he was speaking on behalf of the new administration in Washington.
Mills added that the administration has no intention of forcing diplomatic progress and will require mutual agreement and cooperation from both sides.
He called on both sides to refrain from "unilateral actions" in his words, such as Israeli construction in the territories and the transfer of salaries to terrorists by the Palestinian Authority.
Mills said the new administration would continue to encourage more Arab states to normalize their ties with Israel but stressed that "this is not a substitute for negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians."
