Valérie Guillaume: "The Carnavalet Museum is ready"

The director of the Museum of the History of Paris and of the Archaeological Crypt of the Ile de la Cité is hoping for an opening in the spring.

- Where is the work of the Carnavalet Museum today?

The renovation work on the buildings carried out by the City of Paris has been completed.

We are now in a very active phase of installation of the works which have all been restored during the four years of closure.

More than half of the hanging has been completed, we are going to begin that of the collections linked to the French Revolution, unique in the world.

At the same time, occasional in situ restorations are continuing, on works and complex decorations which have just returned to the museum.

Besides the postponed opening, what consequences has this pandemic period had on your schedule?

After a total stoppage of the site during the first confinement, last March, it was necessary to resume all schedules and put in place new working methods in compliance with barrier gestures.

It was also necessary to adapt to the quarantine periods of foreign teams ...
