Peruvian doctors say they are living "a nightmare" due to the 4:21 pandemic

(CNN Spanish) -

Ten regions of the 24 that Peru has will return to a "mandatory social immobilization", one of them, Lima.

This will occur from January 31 to February 14, as announced by President Francisco Sagasti in a message to the nation on Tuesday night.

These regions are in the extreme group of contagions and interprovincial transport is also suspended there.

The president explained that businesses that supply basic products, such as supermarkets and pharmacies, may open with a maximum capacity of 40% and only one person per family may go out to make purchases.

The Government reported a few days ago that it is in the second wave of the covid-19 pandemic.

The authorities have recognized the increase in infections in recent weeks.

Sagasti also announced that in recent days 196 intensive care beds have been enabled throughout the country and that there will be 350 more in the next two weeks.

According to data from the Ministry of Health, Peru has 1,892 ICU beds throughout the country.

However, the president of the Peruvian Society of Intensive Care Medicine told CNN that there are no longer medical personnel to attend more intensive care beds in the country.

President Sagasti also said that flights from Brazil will be restricted and that the restriction for flights from Europe will be maintained.

"I am a man of science and I will be one of the first to get vaccinated," said the president near the end of his message when he confirmed that the first million vaccines from the Chinese Sinopharm laboratory will arrive in the coming days, although he did not specify the date.

In a previous message, Sagasti had said that this first batch would arrive in January.

Until this Tuesday, official figures from the Ministry of Health indicate that Peru registers more than one million cases and 40,107 deaths from covid-19.
