(CNN Business) -

Apple is urging iPhone and iPad users to quickly update their operating systems to fix security bugs that may have been exploited by hackers.

On its support website, the company said that three security flaws "may have been actively exploited."

It did not reveal too many details about the bugs, noting that "Apple does not disclose, discuss or confirm security problems until an investigation has been conducted and patches or versions are available."

The problem is a link in a chain of exploitation, which means that a hacker would need to exploit more bugs to make it fully executable.

The company declined to comment further on the attacks.

The company released the security patches on Tuesday as part of its new iOS 14.4 software, which also includes fixes for keyboard lag and allows the camera to read smaller QR codes.

Apple said two security issues stem from its WebKit, an open source browser engine used by the Safari and iOS browsers.

"A remote attacker can cause arbitrary code to run," the company said in the descriptive notes.

Kernel, an Apple development framework, was also affected.

(a piece of software, data, or a sequence of commands or actions, used to exploit a security vulnerability in an information system to achieve unwanted behavior) were reported by "an anonymous researcher," according to the website.

Apple prides itself on device security, but it is not immune from vulnerabilities.

Last year, Google researchers found several websites with code that allowed hackers to silently infiltrate iPhones.

Meanwhile, an iOS13 bug exposed contact data stored on iPhones without requiring a passcode or biometric identification, a flaw that the company did not publicly address until several months after it was first reported.
