At the Paris Court of Appeal, the consequences of the Weinstein case on trial

HEARING REPORT - Eric Brion and Pierre Joxe respectively attacked Sandra Muller and Ariane Fornia for defamation after their accusations on the internet.


It is one of those coincidences of which the judicial calendar is sometimes kept secret.

This Wednesday, January 27, the Court of Appeal judged at the same hearing two highly media cases: Joxe-Fornia and Brion-Muller.

Two very distinct files but which have several points in common.

In both cases, a man sued a woman for defamation, for writings published on the Internet in October 2017, in the wake of the free speech movement following the Weinstein affair.

In both cases, the first instance civil trial before the 17th chamber of the Paris Criminal Court ended in a conviction, and an appeal was lodged.
