Many Erdinger could hardly wait: The city library can again offer a pick-up service.
The response is huge.
The reading material goes away by the bag every day.
Erding
- Reading is one of the citizens' favorite pastimes in the corona pandemic.
This can also be seen in the Erding city library.
Since it can offer a pick-up service again, the facility on Aeferleinweg has been literally overrun.
Manager Ingrid Müller-Heß and her team have their hands full - and are happy about it.
The libraries had been closed since mid-December due to the new lockdown, and only a pick-up service had been allowed since the beginning of December.
"Many readers quickly stocked up in order to hold out until the end of the year," remembers Müller-Hess.
Children's books were particularly popular.
The pick-up service has been allowed again since last week.
"On the day the news hit the media, we received almost 40 orders," says Müller-Heß enthusiastically.
She and her team were able to take care of administrative work during the period when there was no loan and also integrated a lot of new media into the system.
“But we also lacked contact with our readers,” she admits.
Now it's back to business: the readers' orders mostly arrive by email, and everyone can find out about the book inventory in the media catalog on the homepage.
With the printed e-mail and a shopping basket, the employees whiz through the library corridors and collect the desired media.
The order is then posted to the reader's account and packed in a paper bag or canvas bag.
Every customer has an agreed time window of ten minutes to pick up the books at the side door - contactless and with a mask.
At the moment, crime fiction and entertainment literature are mainly in demand, but all types of media, including magazines, DVDs and games, can be borrowed.
"The pick-up service naturally means a lot more effort for our team than normal operations, but we are just happy that we can provide our readers with reading material again," says Müller-Heß, who has been managing the city library since 1999, happily.
The extra work is rewarded with numerous positive feedback: “It's good to see you back”, “We have missed you so much” or “Hopefully you are all well!” “This response is really overwhelming.
This also shows the great importance a library has for the population, ”says Müller-Hess.
Around 30 bags of books are picked up every day.
The return takes place via the media return box in front of the entrance door - or when collecting new books.
New registrations and the extension of the reading card are possible by phone or email, emphasizes Müller-Heß.
After registering, you can also borrow electronic media online.
The pick-up service has been possible in the Klettham district library since yesterday.
You can call them on Tel. (0 81 22) 1 87 37 40 on Tuesdays from 3 to 5 p.m. and on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
