In his Senate office, Bruno Retailleau is accompanied.
He works under the gaze of two great men whose photos are enthroned on the shelf.
Georges Clemenceau, “Father Victory” of the First World War.
Jean de Lattre de Tassigny, companion of the Liberation and Marshal of France.
Both were born in the same village, Mouilleron-en-Pareds, in Vendée.
The land of Retailleau!
Where he is chosen, where he is rooted ...
So whoever wants to be a candidate, then president, tells his Clémenceau and his de Lattre de Tassigny: “They are the double weft that weaves France.
One was an eater of priests
(Editor's note: he speaks of Clémenceau)
, the other a
catho
and an
aristo
(Editor's note: he speaks of Tassigny)
.
But together they embody continuity and unity through love for France.
"
The "Tiger" and "King John" (their respective nicknames) gathered here would be the symbol of a reconciliation between the old and the new regime.
Look no further, here you have Bruno Retailleau's political bet.
He imagines a Homeric battle between a right which will have to represent eternal France and a Macron who, in his eyes, will have only divided the people since 2017.
With Macron, asserts the Vendée senator "in France there is only one segmentation".
In doing so, Bruno Retailleau draws, of course, a tailor-made scenario where he would be best able to represent the right against Emmanuel Macron.
But not everyone shares this vision, far from it.
The Vendéen knows it: “My political family is putting up as many obstacles in front of me as it can.
To cross them, it will take at least the determination of a Clémenceau and a de Lattre de Tassigny united.
