France seeks solution in Lebanon, calls on US to be "realistic" with respect to Hezbollah
A source in Macron's office said he hoped the new Biden administration would cooperate in Paris' efforts to lead to the formation of a stable government in the country.
"We do not expect a change in attitude towards Hezbollah, but that it will be realistic about what is possible and what is not, given the circumstances."

The United States, led by new President Joe Biden, must adopt a more realistic approach to Hezbollah in order to help break the political and economic impasse in Lebanon, a source in the French presidency said yesterday (Tuesday).
French President Emmanuel Macron is leading international efforts to rescue Lebanon, formerly a French-sponsored territory, from the deepest crisis since its 1975 civil war.
He has visited Lebanon twice since the huge explosion at the port of Beirut in August that destroyed parts of the capital, but no progress has been made in forming a new government.
While the administration of former President Donald Trump supported Macron's initiative, he opposed efforts to include Iran-backed Hezbollah and defined as a terrorist organization by Washington.
"There is an emergency in Lebanon and we think there are priorities that we (France and the United States) can promote together," the French source told reporters, speaking on condition of anonymity.
He said Macron's first priority is to form a stable government in Lebanon.
"We do not expect a change in the American attitude towards Hezbollah, but it will be realistic about what is possible and what is not given the circumstances in Lebanon," the source said, without specifying what Paris wants Washington to do about it.

The Biden administration's approach to Lebanon is still unclear.
The Hezbollah International Funding Prevention Act of 2015, which aims to cut off the Shiite organization's global funding networks, was passed during President Barack Obama's administration, in which Biden served as vice president.
The French presidential official added that there is no plan at this stage to reorganize Macron's arrival in Lebanon, after postponing his planned visit last month following his infection with the corona virus.
