Lake promenade: the days of the old pergola are numbered

For almost decades, the Bad Wiessee town council has been talking about improving the lake promenade. Now nails are made with heads: the old wooden pergola should give way and make room for a new structure including a kiosk, patio and stage.

For almost decades, the Bad Wiessee town council has been talking about improving the lake promenade.

Now nails are made with heads: the old wooden pergola should give way and make room for a new structure including a kiosk, patio and stage.

CSU spokesman Florian Sareiter was delighted with this “positive item on the agenda” at the latest municipal council meeting.

This means that the committee is fulfilling its election campaign promise to redesign the lake promenade as quickly as possible.

"It's time we got down to it, otherwise the thing will collapse," he said, looking at the ailing pergola.

Instead of a pergola by the lake: kiosk, patio, stage

The rough plans for the new timber construction are already in place: According to this, a 25 square meter kiosk, a covered patio for around 16 people, a staff toilet and an 84 square meter stage as well as a small storage room are to be built almost exactly on the area of the current pergola .

"We limit ourselves to the municipality's own land and do not want to intervene in the green areas," explained Thomas Holzapfel from the Technical Building Authority.

Only the stage area comes out a little higher than the existing building and is glazed at the rear.

Holzapfel already showed the first sketches of the new pergola, but also emphasized that this was not the final plan.

So it is still necessary to advise on details of the facade design (possibly based on the new iodine bath by Matteo Thun), on the implementation of rain protection for the spectators, on statics, acoustics, drainage and flood safety.

Only then can the approval planning be submitted.

Johannes von Miller (Greens) praised the project in principle.

However, he suggested an improvement in the appearance of the new structure.

"You have to look at it again, we should get away from a functional building," said von Miller.

He also reminds us that the redesign of the lake promenade actually wanted to wait until the details of the hotel planning by Strüngmann's company Athos were available, in order to be able to build on the style.

“Maybe we should wait until we have some initial views,” suggested von Miller.

New plans on the lake promenade: the community wants to move something forward

Another delay - that much became clear - was out of the question for the local council.

“We have to go our own way and find our own design,” explained Florian Sareiter, rejecting a wait for the Strüngmann family's great success.

After all, according to Sareiter, the budget for the measure on the lake promenade has been available since 2014.

Johann Zehetmeier (FWG) saw it similarly, who at the beginning of the project also contributed a first draft for a new pergola.

He appealed: "We should finally set a sign that we are moving something forward."

Replacement for pergola by the lake: new building should be in place by 2022

The local council followed this unanimously and made the fundamental decision to tear down the old pergola and replace it with a new building.

A schedule has also been set: the demolition should take place after the summer season 2021, and the replacement building should be in place by the beginning of the 2022 season.

The administration was commissioned to advance the planning.
