Line 14: the giant Porte-de-Clichy metro RATP station opens this Thursday morning

2021-01-27T18:39:16.325Z

The entire district of the Palais de Justice in Paris (17th century) was waiting for a means of transport to its measure. It will be done from this Thursday

"Sorry but I have to make a phone call before my hearing."

This young lawyer hurries on leaving the Porte de Clichy station, heading for the Palais de Justice in Paris (17th century).

At the mention of line 14, she still takes the time to raise her head: “Oh yes, I'm waiting for her!

I will take it, it will save me time, ”she admits.

This will soon be possible for her and all other transport users, workers or residents: the new Porte de Clichy station will open its doors to the public from this Thursday, January 28, at 10 a.m., after its official inauguration by Valérie Pécresse, president of the region, and Catherine Guillouard, CEO of RATP.

The metro line 14, extended from Saint-Lazare to Mairie de Saint-Ouen since December 14, will finally stop there, more than a month after the other three stations of this extension (Pont-Cardinet, Saint -Ouen and Mairie-de-Saint-Ouen).

This delay is explained by the significant delay in the work of this station, the victim of a gigantic water leak in 2016, which put the site on hold for a year.

A delay now made up, even if the area around the main entrance to the metro station will probably not be completed on Thursday.

Not sure either that all the finishes are perfect.

But the RATP already welcomes the “tour de force” of its teams to complete this station, the largest and deepest of the four new ones on line 14. Porte-de-Clichy, it is indeed 9000 square meters on 6 levels, and docks 26 meters deep.

All 100% accessible thanks to elevators serving all levels.

The look will be similar to that of the new 14 stations inaugurated last month: white sandstone tiling on the wall, with rosettes made up of 14 concentric lines, black tiling on the floor, stainless steel and glass for the secondary fittings, and exposed concrete as base material.

Relief in the Palais de Justice district

Above all, to better serve the district, this new station will have three accesses.

The main one is at the corner of avenue de la Porte-de-Clichy and boulevard Bessières.

A secondary access is on the other side, at the corner of Boulevard Berthier, and another on the forecourt of the Tribunal de Paris, rue André-Suares.

To see the uninterrupted flow of people leaving the current station of line 13 at Porte de Clichy, even though the use of public transport is only about half of its usual rate, we understand the usefulness of this new giant stop on line 14. The Porte de Clichy district, in addition to the immense Palais de Justice, also includes the north of the Parisian Clichy-Batignolles district and the southern entrance to Clichy-la-Garenne (Hauts- de-Seine), a sector in full development with nearly 12,000 new jobs and 7,000 new inhabitants.

Under these conditions, the RER C and line 13, which is moreover only one of its two branches, were not sufficient to serve the district, even after the extension of the T3b tram here since the end of November 2018. “We have been waiting for line 14 since then. a long time, remembers Michel, who works in the neighborhood.

It had been promised to us before the court was inaugurated.

It was almost three years ago, in April 2018 ...

Effects on line 13

In addition to the inhabitants and employees of the sector, line 14 at Porte-de-Clichy is eagerly awaited by users of line 13. As a reminder, the northern extension of line 14 is indeed supposed to relieve the 13 by 25% of its travelers at rush hour.

However, this reduction has not yet really been felt for a month, in particular because users of the Asnières-Gennevilliers branch of line 13 did not have access to the new portion of line 14.

With this new station, according to studies by Ile-de-France Mobilités carried out before the works in 2012, we will go from 9,200 passengers in one hour to 7,500 between Asnières-Gennevilliers and Porte-de-Clichy, i.e. a decrease 19% of travelers on this branch of route 13 (under normal traffic conditions, excluding Covid).

The fact for the 14 to cut the two branches of the 13 will allow the load shedding effect to operate fully.

Ultimately, the central section of the cursed line 13 should lose 4,000 to 5,000 passengers per hour and per direction.

Since the opening of line 14 in Saint-Ouen, Sylvie, who works at the courthouse, has even observed "fewer people, and less dirt" on the 13. She will stay on this line since she starts from Duroc station, from where its route is direct.

But her colleague Amina, who takes line 1 at Châtelet then 13 to Porte-de-Clichy, a 32-minute journey, will be able to come directly by 14 ... in 10 minutes.

And will not deprive itself of it.

“I save more than 20 minutes!

She exults.
