The Supreme Court confirmed the acquittal of Stefano Binda from the accusation of killing Lidia Macchi, the young student killed with 29 stab wounds in January 1987 and found dead in a wood in Cittiglio in the Varese area, a case that has remained unsolved ever since.
In the first instance, Binda was sentenced to life imprisonment, and then acquitted on appeal by the Milan Court of Assizes.
Now the stoats have declared inadmissible the appeal of the pg of Milan and of Lidia's family members.
"We believe that during the course of the investigations and especially the trials, not enough evidence emerged to believe that Stefano Binda was the murder of Lidia and therefore we understand his complete acquittal". This is what Paola, Stefania and Alberto Macchi, respectively mother and brothers of Lidia Macchi, the Varese student killed in January 1987 in the woods of Cittiglio (Varese) write in a letter. "The wound of not having found the culprit of Lydia's death will remain in us forever", the letter continues.
