The Californian operator is expanding its range of self-service vehicles. In addition to scooters and bicycles, electric scooters will be

And three.

The operator Lime announces this Wednesday that a third type of vehicle will be available via its app, from the spring, in Paris and Washington (United States).

After electric scooters - from June 2018 - then bicycles - with the takeover of JUMP in 2020 -, the Californian company will also offer “free floating” electric scooters.

"With the addition of scooters to its offer, Lime becomes the first and only micromobility operator to offer three electric vehicles shared on a single platform," says the operator, who currently manages a fleet of 5,000 scooters and a thousand bicycles in the French capital.

The scooters, bridled at 45 km / h, will be manufactured by the Chinese Niu.

To unlock them, customers will have to take a picture of themselves wearing a helmet.

The driver, who must have an A or B license, will have the right to carry a passenger in the back, using the two helmets provided.

For the moment, Lime has not communicated the prices for this service.

As for the size of the fleet, it is the subject of ongoing negotiations with the City of Paris.

"We want to launch our first pilot in Paris in order to allow Parisian users to make all their journeys with a single application," said Ghassan Haddad, director of public affairs Europe, Middle East and Africa at Lime.

Lime's services are integrated into the Uber, Google Maps and CityMapper platforms.

A competitor for Cityscoot

Like Uber, Lime now follows a “multimodal” offering strategy.

Scooters offer a relevant mode for short journeys (less than 3 km).

Bicycles can go beyond 5 km, while scooters can help to easily travel more than 10 km.

Lime's lime-green scooters will compete with the 4,000 Cityscoot machines, present in the Paris region since 2016. Since the departure of the German COUP (taken over by TIER), the French company is alone in this market.

Note that Cityscoot is accessible via the Uber app which is none other than the main shareholder ... of Lime.
