For the fifth day in a row, the service authorities of the Public Corporation for Drinking Water in Lattakia, in coordination with the Health Directorate, collect samples of spring water in the village of Hammam al-Qarahleh in the countryside of Jableh and some private tanks to ensure the safety of the water after the spread of viral hepatitis “any” infections in the village.

Mudhar Mansoura, director of the Water and Sewerage Corporation, indicated in a statement to SANA's correspondent that the analysis and sterilization department in the establishment had picked water samples from the springs in the Ain Qubi “Hammam al-Qarahleh spring” station, the popular Jebol station and reservoirs of the Water Corporation, in addition to some reservoirs for the residents of the village and from All water networks, tanks and springs that the corporation invests in, and all the results were negative and there was no case of pollution.

Engineer Shadi Fatiha, head of the analysis and sterilization department at the corporation, said: “We picked some samples of water from different sources and conducted analyzes on them related to the indicators of pollution. The results of the samples of the establishment’s tanks appeared sound and conformed to the Syrian standard specifications in terms of physiochemical and bacteriological aspects. As for the popular water samples, they contained coliform The kidneys need to be sterilized before drinking.

Dr. Safaa Dibeh, head of the Communicable and Chronic Diseases Division in the Lattakia Health Directorate, said: “We were informed that there are 17 cases of hepatitis“ any ”present in the village of Hammam al-Qarahleh, so the health team was directed to conduct investigation, detect cases, and take water samples from different sources, and the next day it was done. We were informed of 5 new cases in the same village, so the central health team went to the village and other water samples were taken from different sources and analyzed in the hospital, and there are still new cases being reported. In our turn, we took water samples for the third day in a row in cooperation with the Water Corporation and until The moment the direct cause of the injuries was not known.

Diba indicated that the team of the Health Directorate has published awareness in schools in addition to educating parents, providing health education, and asking everyone to follow the rules of general hygiene, sterilizing vegetables well, not using personal tools for patients, in addition to not taking Sitamol or any type of medicine without consulting a doctor.

Dibeh confirmed the daily follow-up of patients, the distribution of sterilization pills for groundwater and springs, in addition to the method of their use and the conduct of analyzes for hepatitis at Jableh National Hospital for free, in addition to distributing vitamin pills to the injured in the village.

Muhammad Khalifa, a member of the Latakia Governorate Council, said that the cause of pollution is the poor implementation of the sewage project in the town and the leakage of contaminated water into the groundwater, which caused the disease to spread in the village recently.

Fida 'Issa, the mother of the injured child, Munir Qadi, said that her son developed symptoms a week ago.

Sumer Muhanna said that he had two children recently infected with the viral liver epidemic "any" and that there is interest from all government agencies to treat the problem and find out the cause of the spread of the epidemic in the village.

Naji Jahjah, the village mayor, indicated that there are some injuries in the village, the direct cause of which is not yet known, and it is likely that the cause of the problem is poor sanitation.
