The Russian Foreign Ministry announced today that it has handed over a protest note to the representative of the US embassy against the backdrop of publishing fake news about unauthorized protests in Russia.
"We draw attention to the widespread spread of fake and inaccurate news about Russia by the American digital platforms, which are systematically and provocatively repeated and are published in a coordinated manner by the American embassy in Moscow," the foreign ministry statement said.
The statement added that "the representative of the embassy was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today, and he was handed a protest note warning that the Russian side reserves the right to respond."
Yesterday, the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova announced the opening of investigations into the case of US technology giants publishing fabricated materials regarding unauthorized demonstrations in Russia and informing the US ambassador to Moscow her protest due to his country's statements in this regard.
