The United States is facing domestic terror threats from people frustrated by the results of the presidential election, the Ministry of Homeland Security warned tonight (Wednesday), after the attack on Capitol Hill earlier this month by supporters of former President Donald Trump.

Five people were killed in the riots, and Joe Biden's inauguration last week was held under heavy security in Washington, D.C., which was closed.

"There is information to suggest that some ideologically violent extremists who oppose government authority and transfer of power, as well as other rage driven by false narratives, may continue to incite or resort to violence," the ministry said in a national terror alert.

It was further stated that there is no information on a specific attack, but the high threat across the United States is expected to last for weeks.

According to the outspoken warning, those violent extremists are fueled by outrage over the restrictions of the corona plague, the results of the presidential election and the use of force by the police, alongside "prolonged racist and ethnic tensions, including opposition to immigration."

Officials said about 5,000 of the 20,000 troops deployed in the Capitol ahead of the Biden inauguration are expected to remain in the city until after the end of Trump's second impeachment trial, which opens on February 8.

The former president is accused of inciting an uprising after in a speech that preceded the onslaught he called on thousands of his supporters to "fight" for him following his lies about election fraud.

The Department of Homeland Security has warned that those extremists may draw encouragement from the breach of the Capitol, the seat of the U.S. administration, in favor of attacks by government officials or other government structures.

"This move should have happened a long time ago, and I commend the Biden administration for that," Sen. Mark Warner, the most senior Democratic member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, told Reuters.

Instructed the administration to conduct a full examination of the threat of domestic terrorism.

The Department of Homeland Security usually publishes official memoranda once or twice a year, and they usually address threats posed by foreign terrorist organizations.

The latest, published by the Trump administration in January last year, stated that Iran is a country that sponsors terrorism and has defined its Revolutionary Guards as a foreign terrorist organization.

Last week, Biden instructed the administration to conduct a full review of the threat of domestic terrorism.

White House spokeswoman Jen Saki told reporters that the investigation would be conducted by the Office of the National Intelligence Chief in coordination with the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security.

"The January 6 attack on the Capitol and the tragic deaths and destruction that have taken place underscore what we have known for a long time: the rise of domestic violence is severe and is a growing threat to national security. The Biden administration will fight this threat with the necessary resources and determination," she said.

In September, former Acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf said in a congressional hearing that organizations supporting white racial superiority have been the "most persistent and deadliest threat" to extreme violence in the United States in recent years.
