The new US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken announced that President Joe Biden's administration will reconsider the previous administration’s decision to classify the Yemeni Ansar Allah movement as a "terrorist organization."
Reuters quoted Blinken as saying at his first press conference after he was sworn in: "It is of utmost importance that we do everything in our power to provide humanitarian assistance to the people of Yemen who desperately need it."
He added, "Reconsidering the decision to designate the Yemeni Ansar Allah group as a terrorist organization aims to ensure that all humanitarian organizations can provide aid to Yemen."
Earlier this month, American representatives called on the administration of former President Trump to immediately reverse its conduct of classifying the Ansar Allah movement as a "terrorist organization", warning of the worsening of the humanitarian crisis in Yemen as a result of this decision and considered this decision "a death sentence for thousands of Yemenis because it would cut off humanitarian aid and make talks."
