On the same day, personnel went to the three retail stores of the Hong Kong manufacturer in Mong Kok and Lok Fu and seized 102 packs and 510 masks.

The 47-year-old female manager of a chain cosmetics group and the 56-year-old male director of the manufacturer were arrested, and the two were released on bail pending further investigation.

The case is still under investigation and it is not ruled out that more people have been arrested.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the surgical masks involved were produced in Hong Kong by the manufacturer involved. Customs will conduct further tests on the surgical masks involved to determine the type of bacteria.

Chen Guoxiong reminded the public to check the masks for stains and odors when buying surgical masks, avoid buying bulk masks, and replace the masks in a timely manner and store the masks in a dry place.

According to the "Consumer Product Safety Regulations", no person may supply, manufacture or import consumer products unless they comply with the general safety requirements of the "Regulations".

Offenders can be fined up to 100,000 Hong Kong dollars and 1 year in jail for the first conviction, and can be fined up to 500,000 Hong Kong dollars and 2 years in jail for each subsequent conviction.
