According to new figures published by Public Health France, 23,770 people have tested positive for Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, compared to 22,848 last Thursday.

The test positivity rate has been stable for several days, it stands at 7.1%.

Just over 141,000 people tested positive last week, an average of around 20,100 per day, up from 128,000 the week before, or a daily average of 18,300.

348 people have died in hospital as a result of the virus, bringing the number of deaths in France since the start of the epidemic to 74,800, including 52,562 in hospitals and 22,238 in nursing homes or in medico-social establishments.

Hospitals recorded 11,219 new hospitalizations of Covid-19 patients over the last seven days, of which 1,800 had to be admitted to an intensive care unit.

Finally, 1,349,000 people have received a first dose of the vaccine since the start of the campaign launched at the very end of December, including 117,217 in the past 24 hours.

The government predicts that in February

"a million additional people"

will receive at least one injection of the anti-Covid vaccine, for a total of "2.5 million at the end of February", government spokesman Gabriel Attal announced Thursday evening .

This vaccination forecast remains much lower than the figure of

"4 million at the end of February"

of people vaccinated provided by the Minister of Health Olivier Véran on January 21.

All the usual figures communicated by Public Health France and the government were not available Thursday evening, for the second consecutive day.

The government is preparing the spirits for new health restrictions, including a possible third confinement, after having noted that the curfew at 6 p.m. was not enough in the face of the more contagious variants of the Covid-19 virus.

Emmanuel Macron could announce these measures this weekend or Monday, which will be the subject of a debate and a symbolic vote in Parliament next week, said several politicians who participated in meetings with Prime Minister Jean on Thursday. Castex.
