The Department of Health today (January 28) urged members of the public not to buy or consume a product called "Hepo Jiali Health Tea", which was found to contain unlabeled controlled drug ingredients.
According to intelligence, the Department earlier purchased samples of the above-mentioned products through the website for testing. The results showed that the samples contained the western medicine ingredient "dexamethasone" of Part 1 poison under the Pharmacy and Poisons Ordinance (Chapter 138) ("Ordinance") And "Piroxicam".
The Department of Health and the police conducted a joint operation last night (January 27). A 49-year-old man was arrested by the police for illegally selling Part 1 poisons and unregistered pharmaceutical products.

"Piroxicam" is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug used to relieve musculoskeletal pain. Its side effects include gastrointestinal discomfort, gastrointestinal diseases, nausea and skin reactions.
Products containing "Dexamethasone" and "Piroxicam" are prescription drugs and must be used under the instructions of a doctor, and can only be purchased with a doctor's prescription in a pharmacy under the supervision of a registered pharmacist.

According to the "Ordinance", all pharmaceutical products must be registered with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board of Hong Kong before they can be legally sold on the market.
Illegal sale or possession of unregistered pharmaceutical products and Part 1 poisons are criminal offences. The maximum penalty for each offence is a fine of $100,000 and imprisonment for two years.
A spokesperson for the Department of Health strongly urged members of the public not to buy products with unknown or suspicious ingredients, and not to consume products of unknown origin.
People who have purchased the above products should stop taking them immediately. If they feel unwell after taking the products, they should seek advice from medical staff.
The public can deliver the product to the Drug Office of the Department of Health, Unit 1801, Wu Chung Building, 213 Queen's Road East, Wan Chai during office hours.
