The new Democratic administration of Joe Biden has declared itself ready to re-engage the United States in the agreement, left in 2018 by Donald Trump, but Washington and Tehran are each waiting for a first step on the other.

"

There is a lot of work to do

" but "

I do not expect an immediate solution

," said the head of the UN, when asked at a press conference on the possibility that he leads a mediation to break the deadlock.

"

I believe that everyone, all those who have subscribed to the JCPoA (the name of the agreement, note) and the other interested parties must work together to reduce uncertainties, to face difficulties and obstacles

", a- he added, without answering the question of a possible mediation.

It is about "

gradually ensuring that things are moving towards a situation where we can have an agreement which is essential for the peace and stability of the Gulf and of the whole world

", explained Antonio Guterres.

Concluded in 2015 to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, along with the United States, Russia, China, the United Kingdom, France and Germany, “

the JCPoA was a great diplomatic victory. and an essential element for the peace and stabilization of the Gulf

”and“

we regret that the agreement has been called into question

”, he also said.

It is obvious that there are difficulties and obstacles, that there is increased complexity because the United States has come out (of the agreement) and taken additional measures (of sanctions).

At the same time, Iran has taken some measures in terms of developing its nuclear capabilities,

”he recalled.

In response to the US exit from the deal and the imposition of US sanctions, Iran reneged on several of its nuclear commitments, assuring that its measures were reversible.
