Several allies of imprisoned opposition leader Alexei Navalny were arrested today (Thursday) in Russia, in an attempt to thwart another wave of demonstrations planned for Sunday.

The four, including his brother Oleg, were detained for 48 hours as part of a criminal investigation alleging violating Corona epidemic restrictions during a protest last weekend in which tens of thousands took to the streets of more than a hundred cities and towns demanding the release of Nabalani.

The 44-year-old Navalny, President Vladimir Putin's best-known critic, is appearing in court in Moscow today to discuss his release.

He was arrested on January 17 upon his return from Germany, where he spent five months recovering from his nerve gas poisoning.

The Kremlin denies that it is responsible for the assassination attempt as Nabalani, its supporters and Western nations are convinced.

Authorities searched apartments and offices belonging to Navalny's family, associates and supporters, including Navalny's apartment, where his brother was arrested, and a rented apartment where his wife, Julia, lives.

Among the four arrested was also Dr. Anastasia Vasilyeva of the Doctors' Alliance, which Nablani supports. She was recorded playing the piano while police entered her home.

"Law enforcement agencies are doing their job," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in a conference call with reporters. There have been many violations of Russia's laws, and law enforcement agencies at work. "

In addition, the prosecution in Russia sent warnings today to Facebook, Google, Twitter, Tiktok and Russian social networks demanding that they block calls for further demonstrations.

Peskov did not rule out the possibility that the networks would be blocked if they refused to remove "illegal" content.

Earlier this week, the Government Communications Supervision Authority said it would fine the networks for failing to prevent calls for minors to join Saturday demonstrations.

Authorities in Russia even announced today the opening of a criminal investigation against Leonid Volkov, an associate of German villains, on charges of encouraging minors to take part in illegal demonstrations.

He dismisses the charges against him.

Nearly 4,000 people were arrested on Saturday, and some were fined and sent to prison terms.

The frustration from Putin grew after Navalny's organization published two days after his arrest a video of a comprehensive investigation around a magnificent beach palace that allegedly belonged to Putin.

More than 98 million people have already watched it, but the Russian president denies it belongs to him.

That's how she got the cops close to Nabalani

The Biden administration in the United States and EU countries have urged Russia to release Navalny and the protesters, and the West is considering further sanctions on Moscow.

Despite this, Russian authorities are refusing to open an investigation into the poisoning of Navalny, who collapsed on a domestic flight from Siberia to Moscow on August 20, claiming there was insufficient evidence that he was indeed poisoned as found by laboratories in Germany, France and Sweden and the Chemical Weapons Prevention Organization 'Uk.
