Schongau: Sharp criticism of Eberle's contestation

Michael Eberle's contestation of the election in Schongau was the subject of a major debate in the city council. Mayor Falk Sluyterman was "humanely disappointed". The behavior of the CSU city council is "insincere and a bit cowardly," said Ilona Böse (SPD). And Kornelia Funke (CSU) spoke of an absolute "go it alone" Eberle.

Schongau

- Originally it was Hans Rehbehn (CSU) who, after the local newspaper reported on the election contestation at the end of December and beginning of January, put questions to the city of Schongau.

A welcome starter for Mayor Falk Sluyterman to inform the public about what is going on.

He briefly went back to the points that Eberle had made in the election challenge.

The mayor emphasized that he, Sluyterman, was involved in the distribution of postal voting documents, "this allegation is absolutely inaccurate".

Furthermore, it was doubted that all citizens who were eligible to vote had received their voting documents in time for the runoff election.

The "tasteless comics" (Sluyterman) for the candidacy of Hans Rehbehn, which were distributed by Alexander Majaru (SPD) at the time, also influenced the voters in their vote, Eberles said in the election contestation.

Sluyterman filed a complaint against unknown persons with the police after contesting the election

Because he found the allegation discrediting, Sluyterman filed a criminal complaint against unknown persons with the Schongau police at the end of April.

“I was able to endure a wide cross and a lot, but even with me the level of the bearable is reached at some point.” Because of the false suspicions that have been raised against him, he trusts the rule of law.

Sluyterman reaffirmed that he did not know the complainant of the election challenge and only found out about it when Eberle had reported to the editorial office after the first report.

“We both fought our battles, but I have always valued you as a competent city council colleague,” summed up the mayor.

He is sorry for interpersonal relationships.

"The allegations hurt and hit me absolutely below the belt," said Sluyterman.

Evil: "Mistrust of the highest order"

Ilona Böse spoke on behalf of the SPD parliamentary group.

The election challenge shows "a mistrust of the highest order".

She called Eberle's behavior both insincere and cowardly, as he did not have the backbone to address everything openly.

“It's like throwing stones, but hiding behind the facade,” she drew the comparison and regretted that the work in the city council was now overshadowed.

"At the moment it's not always that easy, it crackles."

Böse did not give up on the question addressed to the CSU as to how the parliamentary group stood on these allegations and whether they had voted on them in the committee.

"It was a solo effort by colleague Eberle, his sole decision and his sole procedure," repeated Kornelia Funke, which the CSU city council had also confirmed to the SN.

Eberle: "Can't close my eyes"

Michael Eberle defended his approach.

“I am constantly concerned with law and order.

When citizens approach me, I can't just close my eyes, ”said the city councilor, who heads the Landsberg district court.

In his eyes, election supervisor Bettina Schade was not neutral and “fully investigated”, information had been withheld from him and he feared that incorrect files were stored about him.

"I already know that I'm the bad guy, but luckily there is the possibility that a choice is not checked on site, but that someone will still see it."

Local legal supervision dismissed the election challenge

Because Eberle could not justify the individual points of the election challenge and the citizen did not want to be named, it was rejected by the municipal legal supervisory authority, and Eberle did not lodge an objection.

“There's another difference to defamation, because that's what you go public with,” he said.

He had never made the allegations against Sluyterman public, unlike the mayor himself recently, said Eberle, who suggested at this point that the matter should now be closed and that work should be done.

But the city council colleagues did not want to let him go that quickly, and Majarus's motion to end the debate was rejected by a majority.

Friedrich Zeller (SPD) had previously accused Eberle of having put himself into a “stylized victim role” and not playing with open cards.

"Whatever you say arrives at me anonymously, I would ask you to turn it off."

Election supervisor Bettina Schade: "I'm not the test center"

At the beginning of the discussion, Bettina Schade rejected any criticism from Eberle.

"I am not the test center and bound by law and order."
