The Ministry of Education held a hearing today (Thursday) for the principals of the Haifa Real School, Dr. Yossi Ben Dov and Mandy Rabinowitz. The

hearing was held after the principals approved a seminar for 12th grade students at the school with the participation of B'Tselem director general Hagai Elad. Education Minister Yoav Galant's order not to allow the entry into the schools of elements "who defame the State of Israel and IDF soldiers."

Elad and the organization he heads have recently led a media campaign, in which Israel is described as an apartheid state.

This is in addition to other activities allegedly carried out against the IDF and its soldiers, claiming that this is a legitimate criticism. The Ministry of Education asked the Ministry of Education not to make a decision regarding the hearing before consulting the relevant legal entities in the Ministry of Justice.

An associate of the director general, Dr. Ben Dov, and the director of the upper division, Rabinowitz, claimed that the Ministry of Education made it difficult for them to obtain legal representation and even prevented the representative of the post-primary teachers' organization, chairman Ran Erez, from attending a hearing. Advocate Raz Nazri clarified that the request to cancel the hearing was rejected on the grounds that he has no legal basis, since the Director General of the Ministry of Education has the authority to hold the hearing for the purpose of clarifying and examining the various facts.

However, Nizri stressed that due to the important issue of the right to freedom of expression and the fear that this right would be violated, the Ministry of Education was asked not to make decisions on the matter before consulting the Ministry of Justice.

Support alongside harsh criticism

Outside the Ministry of Education headquarters, several dozen supporters of the Reali principals demonstrated, waving signs condemning Education Minister Galant and calling on him to resign, arguing that the directive he issued banning organizations such as B'Tselem from entering schools has no legal basis and therefore no legal validity for the Reali principals hearing.

Among those who expressed support for the principals of the Reali School were also the winner of the Israel Prize for Education, Prof. Haim Adler, former Education Ministers Yuli Tamir and Shai Firon, former Shin Bet chief Ami Ayalon and many others in the public and political spheres.

However, alongside the support received by the Reali principals, there was also harsh criticism against the principals of the prestigious school.

Among the many visitors are parents and students from the school, sons of bereaved families, public figures and educational elements mainly from the right as well as right-wing movements and organizations such as If You Will and an organization in his image.

Mahrieli responded: "The school has been operating only for more than 100 years only by law, and will continue to do so. We have always worked in cooperation and mutual appreciation with the Ministry of Education and intend to continue. At a meeting we answered all questions of ministry representatives, and we are convinced that "The pluralistic educational concept, which includes exposure to the diversity of opinions in Israeli society and the culture of controversy, is the appropriate approach, and we will continue to educate our students in this way."

The If You Will movement said: "It is unfortunate to see that the management of the Reali school does not know how to distinguish between criticism of the state and delegitimization of IDF soldiers and the existence of the state. Making profits from distributing blood libels against IDF soldiers is immoral and unfair. Israeli students based on this way.

We will continue to stand by brave students, who will not allow propaganda organizations working against Israel to operate in their schools. "
