In Waakirchen, the number of parking offenders is increasing.

The municipality now entrusts the municipal service center Oberland with the monitoring.

Waakirchen -

So far, the municipality of Waakirchen has relied on the common sense of the people when it comes to parking monitoring - but that will soon be over.

Mayor Norbert Kerkel (FWG) said in the latest municipal council meeting: "The situation is getting worse." The town hall chief receives complaints about parking offenders every day.

Behind the anger are often serious, even safety-relevant problems: In addition to garbage collection and winter road clearance, the cars parked in the wild, according to Kerkel, also hinder the rescue service and fire brigade.

Police have too little capacity

“There are signs that show bans, but so far violations have only been punished by the police in very exceptional cases,” said the mayor.

The officials have too little capacity for this.

Kerkel therefore emphasized: “We have to monitor stationary traffic.” His suggestion that this task should be entrusted to the municipal service center Oberland was well received by the local council.

The members voted unanimously in favor.

Parking offenders take over the rule

Franz Reiter (FWG) works part-time in winter services.

“I've been using the snow plow in Waakirchen for many years.” Cars, mobile homes and cattle trailers would often make clearing impossible.

“Sometimes I can't cover the entire route”.

Rudi Reber (ABV) also knows the problem from personal experience: "The cars are simply parked somewhere." Reber named the area around the lion monument as one of the focal points.

Controls by the association after consultation with the town hall

Gisela Hölscher (FW) initially had objections to joining the Zweckverband.

"We are creating more and more bans, which - as in this case - mainly affect community citizens." She criticized the fact that the local people should be able to "dig into their pockets" with the tickets in the future.

“It is also becoming more and more urban here.” Kerkel promised: “We will coordinate with the association where and how much is checked.” The mayor's promise to proceed “with measure and goal” ultimately convinced Hölscher.

Before the vote, Carolin Marquardt (WIR) spoke out in favor of checking the signs in the municipality and adjusting them if necessary.

“The cars are often in the way in places where there is no stopping ban.” Kerkel assured that this would be clarified with employees of the association and the police.

First controls possible from May

“It is important to make the decision before the next meeting of the association.” According to Kerkel, these meetings only take place twice a year: once in March and once in autumn.

The municipality has been a member of the Zweckverband for years - "but only to monitor the flowing traffic and in the registration office".

The association decides on the task of monitoring stationary traffic in March.

"The first controls could be around May," said Kerkel when asked.

Whether the community will make a profit with the tickets is still open.

“Waakirchen will receive the fine - but only after it has been settled with the association.” The work currently costs 30 euros per hour and six euros per fine.

“It is now more important that order is restored.”
