The US economy had its worst year since 1946 in 2020, with the Covid-19 crisis causing GDP to contract 3.5% from 2019, according to a preliminary estimate from the Commerce Department released Thursday.

In the fourth quarter alone, growth is 4% at an annualized rate, a measure used by the United States which compares to the previous quarter and then projects the development over the entire year at this rate.
But taking the calculation method used by the other large economies, growth is 1%.
