Now it's official: graduates have to start alternating classes on Monday.

"Organizationally and pedagogically this is not well thought out," says the head of the FOS / BOS Freising.

Freising

- Roswitha Stichlmeyr, head of the FOS / BOS in Freising, has been on the phone almost permanently since Thursday.

Because on this day the official letter from the Ministry of Culture finally arrived, stating that graduates should start alternating classes on Monday, February 1st.

Proof of achievement must take place completely in the presence.

Since then, Stichlmeyr and her colleagues have been trying to find out how all of this can be done at the FOS / BOS.

Small school house, but 220 students

"It's an organizational disaster," says the headmistress.

Teachers and students would have an enormous number of problems related to alternating lessons.

To find solutions, she's been on the phone with her teachers, SMV representatives and colleagues from other schools since Thursday.

But so far every conversation raises more questions.

“It starts with the fact that local public transport is still in vacation mode.

How should students from Mainburg, for example, sit in the classroom at 8 o'clock sharp?

In addition, the number of graduating students at the FOS / BOS is very high: "That is over 400. If half of them attend classroom lessons, there are 220 students here in the house." In comparison: In the Camerloher Gymnasium, there are only around 70 in total Student.

Companies were obliged to send employees to the home office.

We teachers are fair game.

Another problem arises from the large number of graduates: “Our school building is not large and the classrooms are all different.

Some of them only fit six or seven students if the minimum distance is observed. ”They are currently trying to work out how the rooms are divided up and the minimum distance can be maintained.

But in this connection there is another problem: “We also have students who want to stay at a distance for fear of infection.

And of course many teachers are also worried, ”reports Stichlmeyr.

She does not understand the difference between companies and schools: “Companies were obliged to send their employees to work from home.

And we teachers are fair game. "

Decision "that is not well thought out in terms of organization and pedagogy"

At the same time, the headmistress emphasizes: "Of course, education is a valuable asset - but it's not as if the lessons don't work at a distance." Homeschooling is going very well, she has attendance rates of 100 percent - that is in the classroom not a matter of course.

The students are punctual and motivated.

Even group or project work - currently inconceivable in face-to-face teaching - could be easily completed using programs such as “Teams”.

“We worked forever to make digital lessons work.

Now we're rowing back - and if the numbers rise again, we'll be completely back in two weeks anyway, ”says Stichlmeyr with conviction.

"This is a political decision that has not been well thought out in terms of organization and education."

Great uncertainty for graduates

In her opinion, taking the hasty step into alternating lessons would not do the students a favor: “They drove well with the distance, have a structure, can handle the technology.

The lessons went well. ”Not knowing what to do next leads to great uncertainty in the already demanding final year.

It remains to be seen how the compulsory alternation instruction at the FOS / BOS is designed exactly.

“Maybe we will stay at the distance on Monday and only start on Tuesday.

We have to see how we can do that, ”says Roswitha Stichlmeyr.

"If a minister of education can take eight days to write this, then we need time now."

From Monday, final classes from FOS / BOS and grammar schools will return to the schools in alternating classes.

The students would have liked it differently.
