The decline in GDP is less significant than expected because companies have adapted better to the second confinement.

Strange as it may seem, this number represents good news.

In 2020, the French GDP, that is to say the production of wealth, collapsed by 8.3%, a shock never seen since the Second World War!

INSEE had anticipated a drop of 9% and the government, still traumatized by the consequences of the first confinement in spring 2020, of 11%.

A “slight improvement” therefore at the end of the cycle which can be explained by the good performance of the fourth quarter, which was the subject of many questions.

Despite the weeks of curfews and confinement between October and December, activity fell only 1.3% in the last three months of 2020, against -14% in the spring.

Thanks to public aid but also to their own agility, companies have indeed globally succeeded in adapting, over the years.
