"We want to publish today" the contract with AstraZeneca
.
"We are discussing with the company which parts need to be blacked out."
This was stated by the president of the EU Commission,
Ursula von der Leyen
, speaking to the German broadcaster Deutschlandfunk.
The contract between the EU and AstraZeneca "is very clear, there are binding orders", he added, foresees "a clear delivery quantity for the fourth quarter of 2020 and for 2021", emphasized von der Leyen, specifying that in the document " two plants in Great Britain are also mentioned for the production of the vaccine for the EU ".
"How they are managed is up to them," he added.
The "best possible effort does not exist" clause
in the contract with AstraZeneca, he continued.
The so-called 'best effort' clause was only applicable "as long as it was unclear whether" the pharmaceutical company "could develop a vaccine. That time is past. The vaccine is there," von der Leyen stressed.
Meanwhile, Germany expects AstraZeneca to be approved by the EU, but with limitations.
German health minister
Jens Spahn said this
at a press conference in Berlin.
