Questions about masks: cloth, respirators or N95

Doctor, what is the proper use of KN95 masks?

How many hours can one of this type be used?

- Vanálico Culé 🇳🇮💙❤️ (@VandalicoCule) January 27, 2021

Hello, Culé.

KN95 masks - the Chinese standard which is equivalent to the N95, the United States standard - can be worn for several hours, and must be changed when the interior gets wet or dirty, or when the outline is deformed and cannot fit. the shape of the face.

@drhuerta Good afternoon: It is advisable to walk in the open air with a mask, I do it because I meet people with their masks.

Thank you.

- Maritza Rijo (@maritzarijoguer) January 26, 2021

Excellent question, Maritza.

Remember that the virus is in the respiratory tract of people, so if you are not wearing a mask and the people you come across are not wearing it, there may be a risk.

This can be reduced if you always wear a mask.

Dr. Huerta, I am 74 years old, is it correct for me to use the NK95 mask?

- Roberto José Cajina (@RobertoJCajinaL) January 26, 2021

Hello Roberto.

Of course.

As we saw in the episode of January 25, according to the WHO, the people who must use a respirator are health workers, people with symptoms of covid-19, people who come into contact with them, those over 60 years and people with underlying medical conditions.

@drhuerta excuse me, what is a respirator?

Well, he recommends it instead of a cloth or surgical mask

- Alicia Gaytán (@ AliciaGaytn2) January 26, 2021

Excellent question, Alicia.

There are three types of masks: cloth, surgical and respirators, which are called N95 in the United States, KN95 in China and FFP1 and FFp2 in Europe (FFP comes from the English Filtering Facepieces).

Respirators offer the most protection and the N95 designation indicates that they filter at least 95% of the particles found in the air.

@drhuerta, are the fabric or homemade masks still good against the new variants of the covid or do we need to use the N95 OR K95?

- Frank (@ Frank23792323) January 25, 2021

Hi Frank.

I beg you to listen to the episode of January 25.

There you will get a complete explanation on that topic.

Question about colchicine

Dr @drhuerta, what do you think about the scientific study on colchicine, it came out today.

It would be the 1st oral drug for patients with COVID, which according to published studies reduces the risk of hospitalization by 25%, the risk of mechanical ventilation 50% and the 44% reduction in mortality.

- cesar pajares (@cesarnpp) January 23, 2021

Hi Cesar.

Please listen to the January 26 episode, there you will get a full description of the study and its meaning.

Questions about the vaccine and who can get it

@drhuerta can hypertensive and / or diabetic and / or obese people apply the RUSSIAN COVID vaccine?

- Gerda Palacios (@gerda_palacios) January 27, 2021

Hi Gerda.

That is a decision that depends on the treating physician.

In general, no vaccine has contraindications for people with these types of problems.

On the contrary, they are recommended for being people at risk.

@drhuerta Doctor, can those allergic to penicillin get the Pfizer vaccine?

- Gabriela DH (@gaby_angelus) January 26, 2021

Good question, Maritza.

As we saw in the December 14 episode, CDC's Advisory Commission on Immunization Practices recommended that only those with severe allergies after an intramuscular injection should not get the Pfizer vaccine.

The Commission was clear in saying that people with allergies to non-injectable drugs or food could be vaccinated.

Obviously, before doing so, consult your personal physician.

@drhuerta good afternoon Dr. Huerta, I would like to know if I can get vaccinated if I have had cardiac arrhythmia for a long time and also when they put me under anesthesia they use the cardiac one.

Thanks

Sara !!

- sara (@SARITASEB) January 26, 2021

Hi Sara.

Of course.

There is no contraindication for a person with a heart problem not to be vaccinated.

Anyway, talk to your doctor, please.

@drhuerta

Hello Dr, good day.

One question, if grandparents are vaccinated at home with the CanSino vaccine (Ad5 vector), what effects does it have for those who live with them?

We are 4 at home, 2 normal older adults and 2 (mother and daughter) with multiple allergies whose vaccination is NOT recommended.

- Enriquen® (@enriquen) January 26, 2021

Very good question, Enrique.

No, there is no danger that a person by being vaccinated - with any of the vaccines - will spread COVID-19 to others.

Remember that vaccines do not contain active viruses.

Serious question.

The one who is vaccinated against # Covid_19 may have less risk of getting sick, but the vaccinated can infect another person who has not been vaccinated?

@drhuerta #Sinopharm

- Leonardo Sagástegui (@EncuadrePeru) January 26, 2021

It's a good question, Leonardo.

That is not yet known.

There is no doubt that vaccines protect against symptomatic disease and complications, but it is being investigated whether a vaccinated person can still be infected, not develop symptoms and therefore be contagious.

@drhuerta Dr. Huerta, is it possible to get two different types of vaccine?

Let's say that Sinopharm's and then Pfizer's arrives in Peru, could you vaccinate me twice?

Are there any contraindications?

- Eugenio Salazar (@esalazarv) January 25, 2021

Good question, Eugenio.

There is no research showing that it is convenient or dangerous to use two different laboratory vaccines.

As a general rule, I think it is better to use the one type or technology platform.

@drhuerta good morning dr, I have a relative who suffers from discoid lupus erythematosus, the blood and urine tests have returned normal results, the ANA analysis came out negative.

Can you get the virus vaccine?

Thank you

- Victor Pajuelo Luna (@PajueloLuna) January 25, 2021

Hello Victor.

Of course.

There are no contraindications.

On the contrary, since this is an autoimmune disease, it must be vaccinated because it is a population at risk.

Tests on testing for coronavirus

@drhuerta Doctor good morning, on January 4, my mother and I took the molecular test and we came out positive and on January 20 we did the serological test on my mother, IGG 6.5 came out;

IGM 1.5;

Total antibodies 107.2 and I IGG 1.9; IGM 0.2 and total antibodies 0.2.

- Monica (@ 15Nina02) January 27, 2021

Hello Monica.

Of course.

That is perfectly normal.

Remember that serological tests measure the antibodies that are produced in response to infection, and they can be positive for several months after the disease has passed.

@drhuerta doctor excuse me, to cope with the confinement I must go to my parents' house and stay with them for a month.

I must remove the molecular, isolate myself and wait for the result.

Any other suggestions to not fail at anything?

- juancabezadura (@juancabezadura) January 27, 2021

Good question, Juan.

Ideally, you should take a molecular test three days before seeing them and take care of yourself on the trip so that - despite having the negative test - you do not get infected on the way.

Another possibility is that when you arrive at your parents' house, you isolate yourself completely for 10 days, and if after that time you do not present symptoms, you can live with them.

@drhuerta doctor, please, in case of asymptomatic and mild symptoms, what is the test that tells us that we are no longer contagious at all, since some say it is the negative pcr and others say it is the quantitative test.

Thank you Doctor.

I've been in isolation for 20 days

- JCHASER (@ Activoparagord1) January 26, 2021

Jchaser, according to the CDC, it is no longer necessary to have a test to determine the patient's discharge.

A person who did not suffer from a severe illness is no longer considered contagious after the 10th day has passed from the onset of symptoms and the last 24 hours have passed without fever.

In some cases, your doctor may recommend testing after illness.

Other questions about the coronavirus

Good morning Dr. Huerta, excuse me, I have a doubt, the SARS viruses require that to be eliminated in air and surfaces, you need in the case of alcohol at 70% and quaternary ammonium compounds at 450ppm, exposure times greater than 10 minutes or is more or less

- jose pinto (@ josepin12869824) January 27, 2021

According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), you should clean surfaces with soap and water and then use a disinfectant.

A very simple one is to dilute a tablespoon of bleach or bleach in a liter of water.

@drhuerta Dr. what is the difference between immunity from getting vaccinated and the one acquired from getting sick with covid?

Is any higher?

Are the antibodies that we generate of different "quality" in one case or another?

- Silvia Tely (@SilvyEcuador) January 26, 2021

Excellent question, Silvia.

The antibodies or immunoglobulins that are produced in response to the vaccine and natural disease are the same.

According to preliminary studies of Moderna's vaccine, levels after the second dose were higher than those of the natural disease.

Dr @drhuerta, please, could you comment on immunity in people who had covid?

In theory it exists but can it not?

If or if immunity is created?

How long is it safe?

to be immune and again to be exposed to the virus, you do not get sick but you can be a carrier and spread?

Thank you

- José María Sforza (@fromvisconti) January 26, 2021

Hello, José María.

That is a point in full study.

Studies have found immunity to be short, while others have found it up to eight months after infection.

I think we should wait for more definitive studies.

In the meantime, I think it is safe to recommend that a person who has had the disease should continue to care for themselves as if they had not had it.

Doctor, a question.

I was infected by COVID.

While keeping quarantine at home, my husband was also infected by me since he did not know before taking the test that he was infected.

I have recovered, but my husband has COVID.

Could it be that I get infected again by it?

- marissa flores (@brendssab) January 24, 2021

Hi Marissa, excellent question.

I think that would not be possible because the definition of reinfection says that it must occur 90 days after the first.

@drhuerta Doctor Huerta if it is said that SARS 2 is not already proven to be transmitted orally, why is putting hands in the mouth a cause of infection?

- fernando camargo (@argusfaci) January 23, 2021

Excellent question, Fernando.

It is thought that if the virus passes quickly to the stomach, it will be destroyed immediately by gastric juices, whereas if the contamination reaches the mouth, there is more time for the virus to spread to the mucosa of the mouth and throat. .
