Lynching Yuriy in Paris: two new arrests, twelve in total

2021-01-29T18:07:32.815Z

In police custody, the twelve suspects "are not very talkative", according to a source close to the investigation.

The arrests did not take long.

Less than two weeks after Yuriy's savage assault, on the Beaugrenelle slab in Paris (15th), ten people - all minors except one - were picked up on Thursday, especially in Vanves (Hauts-de-Seine), and placed in custody on sight by the Parisian judicial police.

This Friday, two other minors were in turn arrested.

This brings the total number of suspects in police custody to twelve for "attempted murder" and "criminal association with a view to committing a crime and theft in a meeting," specifies the Paris prosecutor's office.

To identify the suspects, the police officers of the 3rd DPJ (judicial police district) relied in particular on the operation of the telephone, "which places them at the scene of the attack at the time of the facts", indicates this source.

The investigators also peeled the video surveillance of the city of Paris - eight cameras are installed on the slab - as well as that of the metro.

Security audit on the slab

The track of the dispute between two rival bands of Vanves and the 15th arrondissement, which had emerged from the start of the investigation, is still very seriously examined.

As often, in this kind of cases, the suspects "do not show themselves very talkative in front of the investigators", underlines a source close to the case.

The police seek to establish if Yuriy, who carried a screwdriver on him the day of his assault, is indeed a member of a gang, or if he is only a collateral victim.

The teenager was taken in serious condition to Necker hospital on January 15, after being beaten by a dozen hooded and armed attackers.

The dissemination of the video of the lynching on social networks sparked outrage in the country.
