The Lebanese Army announced that one of its patrols yesterday arrested three persons suspected of participating in acts of sabotage and setting fire to the Tripoli municipality building, which led to its burning.

The army said in a statement today, carried by the Lebanese National Information Agency, that "a force of the army also arrested two people in Al-Bateen Street and Al-Tabbaneh, two people, for their participation in riots, attacks on public and private properties, and obstruction of civil defense and firefighting personnel from reaching the municipality building."

The statement indicated that three soldiers were wounded by stones, explosives, and Molotov cocktails during the protests in the city, and that the investigation began with the detainees under the supervision of the competent judiciary.

In its statement, the Army Command reiterated its emphasis on making all possible efforts by its military units to maintain security and stability in the city of Tripoli and the rest of the Lebanese regions, affirming its respect for the right to peaceful demonstration and expressing opinion, and its emphasis on pursuing security breaches, arresting them and referring them to the judiciary.
