The Media Office of the Lebanese Presidency confirmed that there would be no government that would “contradict coexistence,” noting that “uniqueness” in forming a government is “the antithesis of participation”.
The office said in a statement today that “the president in charge of forming the Lebanese government, Saad Hariri, is determined to uniquely form the government, refusing to take into account the remarks of the President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, which embody the partnership in forming the government based on Article 53 of the constitution ... and this is the main point in all that is going on. Circumstances around the formation of the government, especially since exclusivity is the opposite of participation.
The media office pointed out that “the statement issued today by Hariri’s media office contained false responses and information other than its real location,” stressing that “there will be no government that contradicts partnership, pact and true coexistence based on national balance and the protection of its foundations.”
The Lebanese presidency confirmed in a statement a week ago that President Aoun had nothing to do with the reasons for the delay in forming the new government, noting that selecting ministers, naming them and distributing them to ministerial portfolios is not an exclusive right of the prime minister based on the Lebanese constitution, and that Baabda Palace is still waiting for the designated prime minister to come.
