A two-month-old baby died today (Saturday) in the Corona intensive care unit for children and infants at Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem.

The baby was resuscitated and anesthetized for about three weeks, when his condition was defined as very serious.

He suffered from a background illness and even underwent complex surgery at birth.

The staff of the pediatric intensive care unit at the hospital has been fighting for the baby's life for the past few weeks, but the corona disease that affected his lungs and his sensitive and complex condition caused a serious illness.

"We deeply share in the grief of the family, whom we accompanied for a long time during this period," the hospital said.

The Ministry of Health clarified that the British mutation has a tendency to increase morbidity among children and infants, more than the first strain of corona.

According to the ministry, the mutation has caused a rapid rise in morbidity and has made the current wave the most severe to date.

The ministry's data show that 35% of active patients are children up to the age of 17, while in the previous wave the rate was 25% and in the first wave only a few percent.

Although the corona has become more contagious because of the British strain, it is probably no more deadly to children.

At present, the number of children hospitalized in the country stands at less than 25 patients, most of them in a mild condition.

Only two children are currently hospitalized, and are in the intensive care unit at Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem in a very serious condition with lung injury.

They are resuscitated and anesthetized, and the medical staffs are fighting for their lives.

In the shadow of the disease, the Ministry of Health last week issued a directive that children up to the age of 16 who are at risk of serious illness can be vaccinated against the corona virus.

This is not yet a completely approved decision, and it must go through Dr. Boaz Lev, chairman of the priority committee.

In the directive, the ministry stated that the decision to vaccinate the age range is preferable to non-action, even within the existing risks of vaccination at ages for which there is insufficient information on dosage, efficacy and safety.

Tonight it was learned that ten staff members of the Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv became infected with Corona, after receiving the second vaccine dose.

According to the hospital, the condition of all teenagers is good and they do not suffer from the symptoms of the virus.

Staff members, all from the hospital's pathology department, were diagnosed through screening tests they performed despite being asymptomatic.

Infection Staff members say on the one hand that the vaccine works and makes them not suffer from symptoms, but on the other hand the vaccine does not seem to reduce the possibility of infection and infection, and Ichilov members were next to each other without a mask and distance.
