The plastic artist, Muhammad Salman, mastered the various styles of Arabic calligraphy and found in his letters and their decorations a habitat that embraces his artistic faculty that was evident in his plastic drawings.

Salman, who trained plastic art for 40 years in Homs, is looking towards a better artistic future for this city, as it will continue to produce distinguished artists as it has always been.

Regarding his experience, Salman spoke in an interview with “Cultural Sanaa” that he started his pencil drawings, embodying portraits and silent nature, gradient towards watercolors. Oil is moving from realism and classicism towards modern abstraction that he included with some collage, in favor of that drawing with acrylic because it is quick drying, which serves his emotions. The pots when he pours them directly onto the plate.

Salman explains that he was influenced by the international artist Henri Matisse and his brutal school inclined to the loud and strong colors and the vitality it transmits in the painting, which he also derived from his influence with Moroccan and eastern Algerian art.

He was also influenced by the artist, Fateh Al-Mudaris, who worked on the ancient icon in Syria full of ancient Syrian color and eastern faces, to follow his example, but with a modernist template in which the social environment appears with its contemporary themes.

His work as a calligrapher for university degrees and other books and charters at Al-Baath University added to his experience another color of creativity, which he explains that he merged drawing with Arabic calligraphy to present creativity that gives the painting a pompous beauty when it is included with wisdom, a maxim or verse and others, so words harmonize with colors, showing his inclination towards experiment Moroccan in this kind of art.

His passion for Arabic calligraphy and its patterns, especially Diwani, led him to hold courses to teach the art of calligraphy in institutes and universities, which targeted children and university students on the one hand and its employees on the other hand, in order to prepare a generation who believes that Arabic calligraphy will remain the most wonderful art of our ancestors so that we know it for generations.

The artist Salman concluded that Homs, which was famous for a large number of plastic artists and creative calligraphers, will one day rise like the phoenix, which shines brightly in its art exhibitions calling on its artists to return and complete the journey of their creative ancestors.

Salman, who was born in Homs, participated in many plastic exhibitions in Syria and abroad, the most recent of which was the Ornina Exhibition for Culture and Arts at the Abdul Hamid Al Zahrawi Palace in Homs at the end of last year.
