The EU's problems with vaccine procurement remain unresolved.
Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn is nevertheless hopeful about the future.
Not least because the existing vaccines are so far well tolerated.
Munich - when things go badly, sometimes everything goes wrong.
In the
dispute with the vaccine manufacturer Astrazeneca
, the EU Commission published the
contract with the British-Swedish company
to substantiate its position
.
The document has 41 pages, but large parts were made illegible before publication - at least that was the intention.
Because the
blackened passages
in the PDF document are partly legible with the help of a simple technical trick.
An
embarrassment
that fits very well into the picture.
Because the authority of
EU Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen * (CDU *)
is currently not doing well when it comes to vaccine procurement.
After
Biontech and Pfizer *
initially
announced
a lower delivery,
Astrazeneca
does not feel obliged to initially provide even approximately as much of its vaccine, which is now approved in the EU, as hoped.
Only 31 instead of 80 million cans should come.
Even if von der Leyen emphasizes: "The contract is crystal clear."
Vaccination procurement in the Corona crisis: Brits are celebrating - EU and thus Germany is looking down the tube
In addition, there are now
possible problems for the US manufacturer Moderna
, which apparently has to reduce its February delivery to Italy by 20 percent.
While the British are already
celebrating
their
vaccination strategy
, Europe threatens to look into the tube for the time being.
And Germany is also in the boat.
Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn (CDU)
knows this, too, and
continues to prepare the population for “hard weeks”.
"The start of the vaccination campaign was difficult," said Spahn on Friday.
Nevertheless, one continues to
expect
to be able to make an offer to
the
largest part of the vaccination group with the highest priority
in the first quarter.
With a view to the approval of Astrazeneca and other vaccine projects, Spahn spread
hope
: "Every vaccine will make a difference."

Obtaining vaccines in the Corona crisis: Patients only have brief reactions to vaccines
Those who have already been vaccinated have
mostly tolerated
the
vaccine well
, reported the President of the Paul Ehrlich Institute, Klaus Cichutek.
There are known
vaccination reactions such as pain at the injection site, headache, malaise or a slight fever
.
However, these passed by themselves within a few days.
So far,
22 allergic reactions to the vaccination
have also been reported with certainty, which have also subsided again.
"It is not entirely clear what these are due to," said Cichutek.
The fact that
69 people have died
so far
after the vaccination
should not be alarming either.
Those affected between the ages of 56 and 100 often had
underlying illnesses
.
It is "plausible that these underlying diseases have led to death".
The
death rate among the vaccinated
is below the statistically expected.
According to Cichutek, there is “no reason” to assume that
vaccination caused deaths
.
He also referred "fake news" about changes in body cells or infertility as a result of
Covid vaccinations
to the realm of fables.
"That's all nonsense."
In the meantime, according to Spahn, over
3.5 million cans have been sent to the federal states
- 2.2 million of them have already been used.
The company is well on the way to making an offer to all nursing home residents by mid-February.
