Three archaeologists and the archaeologist Rodolfo Aguilar Tapia discovered the bas-relief of the royal eagle under the Templo Mayor in Mexico City and on one side of a building dedicated to the Mexica god of war Huitzilopochtli.
The researcher told CNN that the discovery would help unravel the founding myth of Tenochtitlan - now Mexico City - the eagle warriors, as well as the burials and sacrifices of the time.
