Markus Söder (CSU) as candidate for chancellor?
Apparently, more and more CSU supporters can imagine the Bavarian Prime Minister in Berlin - but not all Bavarians think that way.

Because recently
Söder was
ahead of Armin Laschet as candidate for chancellor in nationwide surveys - although he has not yet actively brought himself into discussion.
On behalf of the
Augsburger Allgemeine Zeitung
, the opinion research institute Civey found out: In Bavaria there is no
majority
for
Söder
as
Chancellor
.
Accordingly, 43.1 percent of
Bavarians
think Söder's candidacy is
positive
, 44.9 percent negative - 12.0 percent of those surveyed are undecided.
Other numbers, however, are more revealing.

At the beginning of 2020, only 54.4 percent of the
CSU voters were in
favor of Söder entering the race as a candidate for chancellor - so just over half.
At the time, these figures were interpreted in such a way that the supporters of

did not
want to lose
their chairman as
Bavarian Prime Minister
.
Apparently, the
Corona crisis *
has caused a change of heart here.
Because now there are 77.3 percent of the
CSU voters
who would
vote
in favor of
Söder
.
At 90.8 percent, an overwhelming majority of CSU supporters are satisfied with Söder's actions during the
pandemic

would like to see Söder in Berlin and a third of the supporters of the

For the latter two, the proponents and opponents of the candidacy are roughly in balance.
A completely different number is exciting and informative.
Because it shows how
polarized
Söder is
- which
should not make
life as a possible
chancellor
easy for him.
The 40 percent who
tend to reject
Söder's
candidacy are made up of around 11 percent who rate the candidacy as “negative” - and over 33 percent who rate it as “very negative”.
This means that over a third of the people in his home state are against
Söder's candidacy
