The scientist Ellen Damm studies the climate crisis in the Arctic. Here she tells how many pairs of socks she wore on her last mission and how to remove a core from an ice floe.

Ellen Damm, 63, is a biogeochemist.

As part of the Mosaic expedition on the »Polarstern«, she examined gases that were frozen in the Arctic ice.

For a few months she was co-chief of the expedition.
