Two men are suspected of hunting wild animals in prohibited methods

The police received a report today that someone had placed an iron cage for catching wild boars on the hillside of Cheung Po Village, Pat Heung, Yuen Long.

The related wild pig cage has also been removed.

The police and related departments and agencies have conducted a search around the site for illegally placed animal traps, but they have not been found.

It is understood that one of the arrested persons is a villager.

The Hong Kong Wild Boar Concern Group stated that the police seized a welding tool suspected of being used to make traps at the suspect’s Yuen Long residence today. Some people admitted that the tool should be used to catch wild animals.

Similar in size to light trucks or medium-sized containers

The Hong Kong Wild Boar Concern Group stated that it has recently received complaints from the public that some people in the village of Yuen Long were welding homemade iron cages for capturing giant animals and selling wild pork in the village.

The director of the Concern Group, Roni, described the scale of the catch as very rare. It is the largest trap ever seen by the Concern Group since its establishment in 2013. It is 4 meters long, 2.4 meters wide, and 2 meters high. It is about the same size as a light truck or a medium container. If it is enough to hold at least 6 to 7 wild boars.

After communicating with the public, the Animal Protection Association and the Fisheries and Conservation Department, the concern group has demolished the trap.

The attention group is very angry that some people blatantly illegally caught and hunted wild boar, and even sold and consumed wild boar.

Roni pointed out that from time to time, he heard people selling wild pork to friends or restaurants. The price was several times more expensive than ordinary pork. He called on people familiar with the matter to call 3661 4764 to contact the sixth team of the Yuen Long Criminal Investigation Team to provide information.
