Since spring 2020, many facilities have been in a state of emergency.

So also the Geretsrieder indoor pool.

The number of visitors has more than halved in the past year.

Geretsried - competitions of the sports clubs, the consecration of the waters of the Greek community, training units of the rescue organizations, water aerobics and mermaid swimming: the indoor swimming pool in Geretsried is usually open all year round.

Like many others, the facility has been in a state of emergency since last spring.

Water temperature reduced to a minimum

At the moment everything in the indoor pool is running in a so-called partial load operation, explains Thomas Loibl, press spokesman for the city of Geretsried.

There is water in the pool, but the temperature is reduced to a minimum.

The ventilation also runs in minimum mode.

"If we are allowed to reopen, the bathroom can be up and running within three or four days," says Loibl.

At the moment, however, nobody can foresee when it will come.

Since November 2, the municipal facility has been closed again due to the corona pandemic.

Behind the employees of the indoor swimming pool lies "like everyone else a challenging year", sums up the press spokesman.

During the first lockdown and beyond, nobody was allowed to swim on Jahnstrasse.

The doors remained closed from March 13th to July 12th.

"It was open on all other days, including the summer holidays," says Loibl.

Annual maintenance is actually carried out during this time.

As a precaution, the indoor pool team had brought this forward to spring.

In general, the colleagues always reacted flexibly and "made possible what was possible".

In line with an extensive hygiene concept, special safety regulations applied last year, such as the requirement to wear a mask outside of the showers and the pool.

There was no way to blow-dry your hair.

A maximum of 35 people were allowed into the water at the same time.

However, the specified number of visitors only led to an admission stop on one day, so Loibl.

The club and school could take place, Vhs courses were offered as well as the in-house water aerobics and baby swimming.

The indoor pool in numbers

• Total number of visitors: 21,857 (2019: 45,519)

• Association members: 7201 (2019: 15,800)

• Students: 2836 (2019: 6923)

• Sports badges issued: 38 (2019: 75)

• Adult visitors: 9,432 (2019: 17,774)

• Children: 2388 (2019: 5022)

However, the popular children's afternoon with large play equipment in the water could no longer be offered after the carnival holidays.

The indoor pool team puts a lot of heart and soul into such offers.

"Everyone is happy when they can return to normal," says Loibl.

Due to the recent closure, the employees are currently working in other areas.

“Whether in the town hall, the library or the building yard.

They are welcome helpers everywhere. "

Regardless of Corona, the days of the bath on Jahnstrasse are numbered as we know.

How many will remain, however, is uncertain.

As reported, the construction of the intermunicipal indoor swimming pool on Adalbert-Stifter-Straße is well advanced.

In November, however, there was a fire in the pool during subsequent welding work.

This will delay the opening at least until June.

This cannot be foreseen exactly, says Loibl.

Until then, everything will be ready in the old indoor pool to fill the transition period from lockdown to the new opening with bathing fun.
