A delivery of (new) shoes that smelled quite a bit led to a major fire brigade operation in Lenggries on Saturday afternoon.
The smell of gas in a cellar in Lenggrieser Bahnhofstrasse triggers an alarm from the fire department.
The smell was probably caused by a load of (new) shoes.
The fire brigade found that the level of odorless carbon monoxide in the air was still too high.
Reason: Probably a defective heater.
Lenggries - No, not as you might think: It was not worn shoes that led to a gas alarm in Lenggries and even the closure of Bahnhofstrasse on Saturday afternoon.
It was a load of new shoes that evidently evaporated in a way that raised the alarm.
Weirs from Lenggries and Tölz in action
The Tölzer Police Inspection reports in its press report that around 4 p.m. there was a report that the smell of gas had leaked into a cellar in Lenggrieser Bahnhofstrasse.
As a result, the Lenggries and Bad Tölz volunteer fire departments moved out with several vehicles.
The fire truck (TLF 24/50) and the powder fire trailer (P 250) were requested from Bad Tölz.
The fire brigade also found increased carbon monoxide
According to the Bad Tölz fire brigade, the control measurement in the basement of the shoe shop revealed carbon monoxide, but this could not have anything to do with the smell in the basement.
This is because carbon monoxide is odorless.
As the police again wrote, the increased CO content in the air could have come from a defect in the heating.
No property damage
According to the fire brigade, the indefinable smell in the cellar probably came from a new shoe delivery and the materials used in its manufacture.
The exact cause could not be clarified.
The only thing left to do was ventilate the cellar thoroughly.
People were not endangered.
There was also no property damage.
