A letter from Neustädter Bucht reached the Wolfratshauser.
The commander of the sponsored boat misses personal contact and plans his next visit.
Wolfratshausen - A Wolfratshausen visit on the boat fell through, as did the crew's walk through the Christmas market: The regular personal contacts between Loisachstadt and their sponsored boat of the German Navy had to be canceled due to the corona.
The friendship between the crew and the citizens of the city survived this separation of around 1000 kilometers, as a letter from Corvette Captain Sebastian Westphal shows.
The commander of the fleet service boat reported from Neustadt Bay a few days ago that the "Oste" was anchored there.
"The new year 2021 has already started again for us with a sea voyage," he writes, and the Oste is currently "on a training voyage in home waters".
Because the sponsored boat is then scheduled to be overhauled in a shipyard for a few months, "unfortunately, a guest trip won't be possible again until 2022," writes Westphal.
Nevertheless, he hopes to "welcome a delegation of Wolfratshausen citizens back to our north this summer".
The commander himself is also planning, together with a delegation of his crew, to “pay a visit to your beautiful city again this year” - should “the circumstances permit”.
Westphal also emphasizes "how closely I am connected to Wolfratshausen and its citizens".
On his name day, January 20, he received congratulations from the mountain rifle company, "with whom I feel very friendly since my first visit in December 2019".
As a result, he recognized again "how painfully I miss the warmth of the Wolfratshauser and the Bavarian hospitality".
Despite all the adversities that the Corona year 2020 also meant for seafaring, Sebastian Westphal looks back proudly: Because of the achievements throughout the year, the crew of the Oste was awarded the best price of the 1st submarine squadron of the Bundeswehr shortly before Christmas excellent.
