Damascus University and the Syrian Federation of Insurance Companies signed a memorandum of understanding to link Damascus University with society, deepen scientific and practical knowledge and scientific research, raise the level of performance in insurance companies, and develop joint cooperation in the fields of research and knowledge dissemination.

According to the memorandum, the Syrian Federation of Insurance Companies is a supporter of scientific research in the insurance field for master's and doctoral students in the Faculty of Economics. The union also provides data, statistics, and moral and material support to graduate students and professors with the aim of making use of them in conducting insurance research and studies.

The memorandum also stipulates that students of the Faculty of Economics are allowed to make field visits to insurance companies to carry out insurance work and to conduct an annual professional course for employees in insurance companies, with the participation of faculty professors and insurance experts.

The memorandum will enter into force after it is approved by the Higher Education Council and remain valid for two years and may be renewed for a similar period after the agreement of the two parties.

The President of Damascus University Muhammad Yasar Abdeen confirmed in a statement to the media that the University of Damascus is moving towards scientific research in the public and private sectors and cooperation with the Syrian Federation of Insurance Companies, which helps to make these researches from the core of reality and meet the required needs under the supervision of both sides.

For his part, Secretary General of the Syrian Federation of Insurance Companies, Dr. Obada Murad, indicated that the Union’s role lies in supporting masters and postgraduate students at Damascus University by providing the necessary and necessary insurance studies to develop the insurance sector through the application of theoretical sciences on the ground and training insurance sector employees, noting the importance of empowering Eleven segment of the youth in universities from the culture of insurance awareness in order to be able to apply and spread it in society.

In turn, the head of the banking and insurance department at the Faculty of Economics, Dr. Ali Kanaan stressed that the importance of signing the memorandum lies in creating networking between the university and society and deepening the link between practical and theoretical so that we can apply theoretical research in practical reality in addition to conducting the qualification and training process for practical cadres on what is recent in Theoretical sciences that take place in laboratories.

Kanaan said that insurance companies have surpluses that they invest and employ, which in turn supports productive companies and leads to an increase in the rate of growth in the national economy.
