Ali Gamrawi, a spokesperson for the Egyptian Medicines Agency, issued a statement on the 31st, stating that the agency had approved the emergency use of the AstraZeneca vaccine produced by the Indian Serum Institute in Egypt on January 30.

The statement stated that the Egyptian Medicines Agency has conducted the necessary evaluation of the vaccine to ensure the quality, safety and effectiveness of the vaccine.

The agency is currently evaluating other new crown vaccines.

The Egyptian Unified Procurement Bureau issued a statement on the same day, stating that Egypt has ordered 20 million doses of AstraZeneca's new crown vaccine, and the first batch of 50,000 doses has arrived in the capital, Cairo.

This batch of vaccines is produced by the Serum Institute of India and has obtained technical authorization from the researcher Oxford University and AstraZeneca.

Egypt officially approved the emergency use of Sinopharm's new crown inactivated vaccine in Egypt on January 2, and started to vaccinate medical staff with Sinopharm's new crown vaccine on January 25.

The Ministry of Health of Egypt stated on January 29 that 1,315 medical staff in Egypt had been vaccinated with the vaccine.
